The above post is basically correct.
If you are paying here in US, obviously you would take it in
USD for $ 335/ - in the shape of a cashier's check or a money
order in favor of 'Department of State'.
If you need to pay at the consulate in India you should take
the DD in favor of 'The American Consulate General,(the consulate
name)' payable in that city for an equivalent value in Indian rupees.
Find out the prevailing exchange rate.
