Hi all

I have succesfully finished cp at chennai on Nov. 30th,
the only question asked by the indian consulate clerk is
what is the name of the company sponsoring GC.

my details,
CSC - EB3
PD - Nov 29th,1999
Labor aprroved July 2000
I-140 - Jan 2001
Had to wait for the priority date to become current ,
also company laid me off in Jan 2001 after the I-140, and changed two
companies on H1 between Jan 2001 and september 2001,

then moved back in to GC company in September 2001 and sent packet 3 to consulate immediately
Packet 3 sent on September 12th, received by consulate on September 19th, delay because of Sept. 11th attacks. usually fedex takes only 3-4 days for delivery.

got interview for Nov 30th.

I took a print out of srifx document about whole process at chennai consulate...

About scheduling appointments with doctor etc.

we need to stay for atleast 3 days to finish the process at chennai.
my consulate appointment was on Nov. 30th friday..
so i went to chennai on Nov 27th tuesday evening from Hyd - chennai on Indian airlines, oneway fare is about 3800 rupees..

From chennai airport i took a prepaid taxi to hotel peninsula which on G.N.Chetty road, it cost me about 150 rupees. for about 15 kms.
there is no point in bargaining with autowalas at airport they ask for more than prepaid taxi.

paid 1150 per day at Hotel peninsula, which is 1km from consulate, 3kms from lister lab, 10 kms from Dr.vijayalakshmi.

But hotel peninsula was not up to my expectations, may be because prices have gone up in big cities for everything.

Hotel Nilgiris nest is 2000 rupees per day and seems to be better than hotel peninsula

On Nov. 28th morning 8AM we went to lister lab and done blood test and xray.
collected lab test results in the evening around 4.30PM
lab test costed us 600 rupees each.

went to Dr.vijayalakshmi on Nov 29th morning, had an appointment 10.30 AM, and it took about an hour to finish that.
paid 450 fees per head, for Dr. vijayalakshmi consulatation
and 150 per head for MMR vaccine

---continued---

continued --order of documents

My left side of the rib cage was fractured in accident in 1998,
so there were about 8 rib fractures on the Xray.

Dr. vijayalakshmi looked at it, and said, it is not a medical problem because the injury healed completely and normal now.
she wrote the same on the medical report - remarks column

on Nov 30th morning, 8AM we went to consulate showed our appointment letter at the gate and were asked to go and sit under the tent.

and all of us were asked to arrange our certificates in this order.

1. Passport
2. Appointment letter
3. OF 230 Part I (copy) & Part II (Original)
4. Marriage Certificate
5. Birth Certificate
( i got affidavits from mother, father and non-availability from municipality)
6. Job Offer
7. Earning Statement( Paystub)
8. Bank Statements
9. only 2000 Tax returns( previous years not required)
10. Medical report from Doctor
11. IRS 9003

I got photocopies along with originals so i gave photocopies of most of the documents, and took the originals back from clerk.

continued - passing time in chennai

About passing your time in Chennai (out of station guys)..
It took only about 30 minutes to do the lab tests on the first day,
for break fast we walked a little bit on the jagannath street and came on the main road and found a very nice restarant on the right corner, it is across the temple on that road..

afternoon we went to pondy bazaar. they have lot of silk saree shops in that area, kumaran silks, pothy, etc.

evening we collected our lab test results and went to spencer plaza on the mount road, that is about 5kms from lab.
they have west side, pantaloons, lotus bawa, and lot of handicrafts shops.

On Nov. 29th, after the doctor , we went on
Chennai city tour, TTDC, it is about 105 rupees per head and
starts from Chennai central station,
1.30 PM - to - 6.30 PM

they took us to 5 locations, 2 Museums, kapaleshwara temple, snake park, valliyar memorial, last is marina beach.

It is a nice trip, if you are not worried about the heat, smoke, sweat, noice etc etc.

SivaR - Congrats. A quick question

First of all, Congrats!
I have a quick question.
"I got photocopies along with originals so i gave photocopies of most of the documents, and took the originals back from clerk. " -- To the clerk, did you submit both the originals and photocopies interleaved with each other or did you submit the originals with the passport and one separate set of the photocopies?
Thanks!

hi Siva..whic compnay\'s packet-3 did you send ?

you said, your old company laid you off in Jan..
and you joined this GC company in Sep..So
did you send the packet-3 with the new company ?
or did you go thro the whole process again, like labor,i-140
and then packet-3 ??am curious coz am in the same state,
Chennai has a case number for me from the prev.compnay..
Now I have sent the packet-3 from new compnay..though my I-140
was approved for the new company with AOS.I-824 approved but
I just tried for AC-140..now after reading your case,am confused..
could you please explain it to me ??

Thanks a lot..

Would appreciate if you could mail me at ramkarpa@hotmail.com

Thanks again

kept originals along with photocopies and took back the originals after the clerk looked at them

I got Labor and 140 thru company A,
then A laid me off
so i joined B , C

Finally in September Company A called me back,
so i applied for CP third stage with A because i already have
labor and 140 done with A

So i have labor 140 and CP all with A only...not with B or C

CP clarification to SivaR

SivaR - I am a bit confused about the CP process.
You said - "so i applied for CP third stage with A because i already have labor and 140 done with A ". Could you please provide a few details like-
did you ask for CP when you filed I-140 or did you did file I-824. If you filed I-824 did you file before I-140 was approved. Did you wait for I-824 approval or did you just send the I-824 receipt along with packet III to the consulate. Where does AC-140 fit in this process.
I have filed I-140 but did not ask for CP. Now I am considering changing to CP. Ant advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Rajesh

To Siva R

I have not taken any electronic goods this time to india, but if you tell the customs inspector that the camcorder and camera are your own personal use items and bringing back with you to US there should not be a problem ..
i did this before one year back and got thru with no problems..they look at your return ticket in that case..to make sure that you are returning soon

I did ask for CP at chennai consulate on the I-140 application itself.
so i donot really know anything about I-824, AC-140 issues.
The advantage with CP is
i sent my packet 3 application to chennai on Sept 12th,
got interview for Nov 30th
so it took about 3 months to get the green card.

with 485 it may take more time to actually get the green card

Congrats! Question on appointment letter.

Did you get the appontment letter from the consulate or did you take a print out from the chennai consulate website? If a print out was taken were there any problems becaause only our case nember appears on this print out with no name.
Thanks for all your responses.
