Hi Folks,
I traveled from LA to Phoenix on a greyhound bus on 3rd December,2006.As I got down from the bus in Phoenix, the Border patrol force asked me for the CIS document to prove that I was not illegal.Unfortunately I was not carrying H1-B document or copy of that. They could not find my status either using my SS or Driving License. Off course it was my fault for not keeping such a copy with me. So I was arrested and in jail for one night.(Since it was sunday I was not able to contact the Lawyer either). On Monday morning I could submit to them my H1-B copy and they released me.I am working for a public sector non-profit organization.
Typically such organizations do background checks for their employees. When I applied for another job recently such record was showed up on FBI background check. It didn't affect my job opportunity but it embarrassed me as I had to explain the whole thing to my employer. Do anyone know what I can do if I don't want this record to pop up in future on FBI background check ?
Thanks in advance.

thanks for sharing this. very interesting info.
I don't think you can clean up FBI record. It is sad that such small mistakes do cause big problems. I am curious to see potential future 485 delay due to this.

FBI records of arrests will be there forever. As long as anybody uses the same background check service, they will see it. However, most employers use services that only return data about actual convictions, not mere arrests.
