Having a discussion with a friend, here goes...

If you're a canadian citizen with a canadian passport...And upon entry to the US, they stamp your passport - While in the US, can you apply to change status to a permanent resident?

If ya have any input on it, that'd be great - or alternative methods...Just want to get this clarified

Thanks
Mark

Not based on getting it stamped showing that you just crossed the border.
You need a valid reason to adjust status, such as getting married, etc.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not an attorney :)

In order to change your status , you have to go through one of the ways specified by the USCIS.

Through Family Sponsorship ( getting married)

Through Employment ( H1B visa )

Since you are a canadian , you cannot use the DV lottery program.

When you enter the US with your CA passport , you also cannot work in the US with either a TN visa or a H1b visa.

my two cents.
