Changing Signature After Marriage ?

Hi ,

Generally after the marriage, the wife changes her Last name to the Husband's Last name. This can be done by applying for a new passport with the Husband's last name.

Now the question is about the signature .

The Wife's New Passport will have

-- Husband's last Name with signature in maiden Last name. Is this a problem ?

-- Do the wife needs to change the signature also to reflect the new last name ? If yes what is the procedure ?

Thanks

Signature doesn't have to do any thing with the changed last name.

So.............you started asking questions again;)

Most times signature can be in any way

Unless legally required for specific documents, one can sign any which way one wants.

same situation

I faced the same situation ; my wife signs her full name as her signature before we got married and later she changed her last name to my last name after marriage & continued using the same signature thinking that there will be only one signature for life time

but the bank questioned us when we tried to change her last name on the bank records with the same signature, she ended up giving new signature for the bank, but she continued using the same old signature on her driving licence , EAD , SSN, I-485 form etc.. etc..

We haven't applied for new Passport for her with the name change , is it necceessary to apply for passport with the changed name request ?

when she applied for Drivers license , the DMV never questioned us about the passport with her maiden name on it , all they worried/asked for the marriage certificate and proof of stay!!

gurus , please advise ...

Hi kvpt_mm,

I heard that changing the last name in the passport is a good idea as having different last names may create problems during travel and immigration.

But the problem I see is that the application for Indian passport asks for an affidavit which has place holders for Old Name and New Name , but does not have any place holder for old signature and new signature.

Also the Passport application asks for two specimen signatures which you would endup giving the old ones.

So in the new passport you would have New Name with old signatures.

I do not know what are the impacts of this.

Thanks

What harm does it create using the same old signature but with the changed last name ?

to my knowledge : I dont see any

Is it neccessary to change the signature after woman changes her last name ?

I guess No need ; No body questioned us before except the bank (chevy chase bank only) but my other bank never questioned on changing the names with same signature.

Even BCIS approved her EAD with the same old signature with changed last name and DMV issued drivers license too

I dont know whether i answered your questions or not, but this is what happend in our situation

No offense , I dont know why SOME women use their maiden name in their signature anyway ? me and my wife argue on this very often !! :D :D :D ; kind of funny some times

have fun enjoy the nice evening

Hi

My wife did not change her last name as she came on L1 visa (which she got before wedding) and now works on EAD after resigning the old job on L1.

What problems do we get if her last name is not changed at all
in travel and immigration or going forward at any other place?

Thanks for your replies

Contacted my lawyer.

Lawyer says that "Her signature, should match the name that she
will be represented by."

Can anyone advise the procedure to change signature

Thanks
