Changing last name

Hi,

I would like to get my wife's last name changed. We are in the 485 stage.

I can get the name in the passport changed.
What would be the procedure to inform USCIS about it?
Can we inform them at the time of approval/stamping ?

Why do you want to get into trouble while you are still waiting for your 485??. First cross the BIG 485 hurdle.., later you think of changing the last name or even the first name or even the DOB.
My advice is do not get into trouble my meddling your names etc...

I know anout those headaches. I want to know if there is any procedure to change the name. I dont know how easy or difficult it is to change the last name after getting GC.

Getting last name changed is not difficult after GC approval. You have 5 years to go before you fill in another major application. Do all your inquiris and procedures immediately after recieving your GC and apply for change of last name.
Since your wifes 485 application is pending, getting communicated to the service center is difficult. After you send your change in name.., you get more worried if you do not hear anything from INS. In case your approval gets a little delayed..., you will start getting more worried..., you will start reasoning that the name change has created additional problems...., why do you want to increase the number of sleepless nights.

My advice is..., when you are dealing with govt agencies..., it is better to stick on to the data that you have first filled in the applications...,

hello,

My exp. about name changed..
I had maiden name on my passport ..(same first name / last name different.) I 485 was filed new name and with the same passport with maiden name.. but I used every where my husban'd last name. on social security card / driver's lic. etc.. Few months before the I 485 was approved I went to Indian ambasy and got my named changed.. after approval i got my new passport stamped.. she asked just two questions.. my maiden name and husband's last name.

this is my exp.. i do not know if this is right way..

Here are my details

Employment RFE 10/23/2003
responded to RFE 11/04/2003
AD 3/16/04

Passport stamped in NJ on 27th April.

Thanks!. But it is too late now as we already filed for 485.
I was wondering whether I can get her name changed in the passport and inform uscis about the name change at the time of stamping.
