Changing Jobs after plastic card

I got my passport stamped on Aug28th, POE New York after my consular processing. Myself and my wife received our plastic cards in December.
I work for a consulting company which sucks. I got laid off from client in Jan and have been on bench. I was intending to leave my employer after Feb28th (so that I complete 6 months after getting GC through them).

I got a new job which will start from March 1st week. I was very kind
and informed my consulting company on Monday (Feb25th) that I would be leaving them on March 1st(1 week notice). They found it a great oppurtunity and say they will keep me only till last friday (Feb22nd) and not this week.

Because of this the employer letter they are willing to give is also till Feb22nd. Now I am wondering if it is ok to leave the company before 6 months is over ? I am asking them to give me a letter till Feb28th and they are refusing it. Since the job situation is bad, companies want to throw people out the same day they give their resignation letter.

Any comments ?

Tx.

I don\'t think it matters so much regarding the 6 months period after your plasctic card or GC stamp. There are many people who have been laid off much before that..even before approval or just after approval..
So just enjoy and have fun and don\'t worry too much..

It may be more important to ask for some wording like:
---
due to unpredictable circumstances occuring in January 2002 we are being forced to terminate the contract of xxxx on the date Feb 22.
---

The ideea is to show that both you and them had the intention to work together indefinitively at the time of the approval but then the circumstances changed. As the previous writer pointed out there is nothing magical about 6 months in this particular case.

Just my opinion, I am not a lawyer.

Hey! Good Luck with New Job!

Why do you worry anyway after getting approval, stamping and getting cards? Are you still bothered about 6mos period? You are thinking too extreme of it....don\'t know...if people start thinking like this.
No body can help!

FYI, after consulting with my lawyer I have changed my employer with in three months of approval. I checked with my lawyer whether I have to get anything in wiriting from my old employeer, lawyer say nothing required. I don\'t know whether my lawyer is 100% right!

I just sent a resignation letter stating that "As we mutually agreed I am going to convert as a full time employee with the client". My old emplyer said okey but he refused to give anything in writing.
I did have any other choice, I have join the client with in three months of approval.

I would appreciate if anybody else in the same boat and share their experiense.

Thanks.
