Changing jobs after passport stamping.

Guys, I was just approved for a GC at the Texas center, in february this year. I plan on moving to Detroit in June this year.

1) would getting the plastic card be a problem with a job change after 4 months of approval?

2) If the plastic card still has not come in a year would it be hard to be restamped in Detroit.

Help.

hi fellow TSC ex-sufferer...
I was strongly urged by my lawyer to not move until after the plastic cards arrive. Got the same advice on this forum too.
Apparently, the post office does not forward this kind of mail to a new address.

We got our cards today ~3 weeks after stamping, and I think you will too way before June..
If for some reason you haven't received it before you move, you will need to
1> call the customer service line for updating your address
2> send in an AR-11 form
3> fill in a form to get the GC card resent to your new address ( customer svc will have the details on this form)

Another point to note: The lawyer said that there is a small risk if I move before getting the card in that if they open your files to verify your employment details before sending the card to the new address, they might not like the fact that you changed your job so soon. But in her opinion 4 months is a decent time to switch jobs after the approval.

And that's all I have to say about that :)

Hi, I did not notice your reply. Thank you. I've thoroughly researched this issue. Here are the facts. The only place where immigration law stresses time spent with the employer is when the 485 petition is filed. At this point the beneficiary ( you and I ) are required to have " every intention to indefinitely " work for the petitioner ( employee). On the flip side the GC gives one the right and freedom, especially after AC21 to work anywhere or with anyone. In my case I have the amounts I have generated through my work for my boss which is 3 times what he pays me. Hence my lawyer assures me moving will not be a problem.
The other plan is to give your lawyer's address at the time of stamping and to keep in touch with your lawywr after moving

Thank you any way for your reply.

Answer: File AR-11 which is address change form.

Answer: Should not be a problem! Simply visit Detroit local USCIS office for re-stamping!

Job changed

I changed job in Jan 2004, (485 filed in nov 2003), submitted AR-11 form.

got approved on March 2004 and recd card in a weeks time.

As long as you are working in the same line of duty as defined in LC application, you should be safe with AC-21 bill.
- just my opinion
