Changing job without leaving the company

Hello,

I know that it is adviced to stay with the company that sponsored your GC for at least 6-12 months. But is it possible to chage your job WITHIN the company? I mean moving to a different department with a totally different job description and salary... Will this create any problems when applying for citizenship?

Thanks for your answers!

I've heard both sides. One arguement was that your job should be similary to the one in your labor cerftificate. The other was that you may be ok unless a disgruntled co-worker filed a complaint alleging fraud.

I checked N-400 and it does have a column (Part 6 Section B) which asks you to list your employment AND occupation. If the occupation is totally different an immigration official could theoretically nitpick. On the other hand, you may be able to get away with the nuances of a Computer vs. Software engineer by listing EE. I would say it depends on your current vs. new job title.
