changing job location (same employer) after I-140?

I recently came to know about a person who transferred from CA to TX after I-140 was done, and had I-485 processing done in Texas.

How does that happen? My understanding so far was that you cannot change the job location after I-140 and if you do, labor and I-140 become void. Is there something I am missing?

Note that it's the same company and same job function. but labor and I-140 were done in California service centre whereas I-485 was done in Texas service centre. The person transferred from bay area to austin.

I have been limiting my options because of this and would really appreciate if there are cases of people moving after I-140 but before I-485.

Thanks!

My understanding based on inputs from my lawyers is exactly the same as yours. However, there are many cases that go through without any problems.

--Not exactly true. If your labor stated about a specific job location then you are tied to that location. Otherwise you are free to move around. Check with your attorney about any location restriction in your labor or I140.
Normally with consulting companies, they do not put any geographic restrictions on the labor or I140. I know many people who had changed job locations after I140 getting approved.

Hi - thanks for the reply. That was a case of consulting so what you said makes sense. But then why would ***ANY*** company put any restriction on the labor? Why would they not keep ALL labor certi.s without restrictions so that if they have to move around employees, they can do it?

Any benefits to the companies which restrict the location on the labor?
