Changing Interview Location

Gurus - have the following question. Is it possible to change the interview location from consulate to local district office in USA. I currently reside in the US and would rather have the interview stateside instead of having to go back home.

What would be the process for changing the interview location. Please note that I am still not scheduled as I am waiting for my number to become current...

I changed from AOS to CP. I did the medicals first in US but after I changed my mind I did them again in the country where I was scheduled for the Interview (Canada, before US I used to live in Canada, and they asked me to prove this).
It seemed to complicated for me to do AOS and wait so long and to do not be sure about anythig. I had the interview in Jan 30, 2006. We got the visas Jan 31, on Feb 01 we made the entrace in US. Not I have the visa in my passport and the green card will come by mail.
