Hello Everybody,
1. Do you know if its possible to change employers on an exisiting J1?
2. With regards to obtaining a waiver what is the approximate time frame from start to finish ( via the regular track, NORI)?
3. Does anyone have any experience with obtaining a J-1 waiver under extreme hardship for a US citizen?
Your suggestions with regards to any of this will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Yes. changing employers is possible with the consent of both the employers(present & future). This depends on which country you live. If it is India, then which part of India. Depending on which state It may take a minimum of 12 months to a mximum of 16 months to get a Waiver through NORI.
Read my article dated 14th September 2004 in this forum to know further details about applying.

That depends on the sponsoring organization, usually a university or other educational organization. If the sponsor stays the same, it is usually not a problem, resident physicians change from one hospital to the other all the time, the sponsor (educational commission) stays the same.

How about 'extremely hard'. Less than 50% of these get approved. Just the fact that your spouse or kid has to move to some less developed country is not considered hardship. Some people managed to get hardship waivers through based on the fact that their kids had some medical condition that needed continuous treatment in the US.
