I know I know, this question has been asked to death...
But I hope I can offer a new twist to the situation...
My present employer, A, sponsored my green card. I received the approval notification last week, and got the card in the mail yesterday.
A is a contracting company that assigns me to work at client C. C late last year underwent a contracting change where they awarded all existing contracts to a new company, B. B has taken over the contracts and wishes to offer employment to all the contractors that are currently going through subcontracts. That is, A, as a result of the change, was made a subcontractor to B. As part of the subcontract, A has agreed to release their employees who are working at C, so that they can accept the offer of employment at B.
I believe the agreement in place is for me to move over end of the month, at which time I will resign from A, and join B, to work in virtually an identical position, with the same job description, and at the same salary.
Of course, many years ago, when the GC process was started, A had every intention to offer me permanent employment when I got my green card. I have been working for them for five years. I, of course, also had every intention to work for A.
However, I am reluctant to leave the job at the client's site. (If I don't join B, that would mean quitting this client). I have been here five years too! I was hoping that the 485 would drag on past the 180 day mark at which time I could switch. But as luck would have it, the GC was approved before the 180 days.
So can I switch employer now without fear of dire consequences?
