hello
had n-14 second interview last week for n-400. Married to us wife for 10 yrs. 3 yr application rule.
accountant filed my tax returns as single and not married, dont know why but officer did not say anything was wrong, he just took the info and put in the file. should we ask accountant to change the returns with irs and send copy to uscis before they make decision? if yes, who\where should we send copy of transript of the changed returns at uscis? we dont know about tax and we dont work for over 4 yrs now. accountant did not file return for wife over 6 years now. Please help.

sorry for the bad english and type.
thank you

thank you for the fast reply.

i am scared they will think that something fishy going on now that i am changing from single to married but i know it is the right thing to do. i will go see new accountant tomorrow, he said he will file amend return to show married joint filing. should i just be honest and explain in a letter when i get the new transcrip attached that my 1st accountant filed and i know nothing about the income tax law? should i mail it direct to the immigration officer who interviewed me?
thanks to you Jackolantern very much.

Just write a short letter to acknowledge the error and state that the corrected return is submitted ... don't bother to get into reasons and excuses.

Along with the cover letter and tax return, make sure to also attach a copy of the N-400 receipt, and your cover letter should have your name and receipt number. Make an Infopass appointment and hand in everything in person.

Then once that is done, ditch the accountant. How could he possibly file it as single when he knows you're married, unless you didn't tell him you were married?

he is a friend of a family member, who does income tax. he knows my wife and me and he came to our apartment to meet us. we gave him info for both of us, like ss numbers and everything else. he said to file single for me. i beleived he know the law better than me anyway. im thinkin maybe he is does not know the law either, but we trust him too much to do this. he did not take money from us for the return. free advice and tax return making was a bad idea for us. I will see new accountant tomorrow. can we mail the info to the immigration officer at uscis when we get the new transcript? my wife is very ill and we dont have anyone to take care of her. last time she came with me and it was very hard for her waiting all that time for me to finish the interview.

thanks for helping us
