Change Status to TN?

Hi, I have a question concerning the TN. I'm currently in the US on a B1 visitor visa from Canada. Just recently I was offered employment with a company in the US. Would it be possible for me to apply within the US to the Vermont Service Center? and since my b1 visa will be expiring in 4 weeks would premium processing be in order?

The information below from the internet gives info about b1 visa, is it true I can change to TN status?

The B1/B2 can also be used to negotiate various contracts to set up a business for several other types of business visas.

Your status on this visa can be extended and/or changed to another type of status such as a Student Visa or another type of work visa

If someone can please help me.

Thank you,
Anji

yes it is possible to change status from B-1 to TN using the i-129 form and mail it to VSC. the problem is that VSC is very very slow right now with regards to processing i-129s. Even if you send the extra $1000 for premium processing VSC might not "receive" the petition for 4 weeks as it sits in their mail room. You are much better off getting the TN from a POE instead.

Thanks for the reply guys, that helps alot.
bzuccaro the reason I have a b1 visa, is that I've been travelling alot lately to the US. The CBP at customs would take me to the customs office and ask alot of questions, of why I was travelling and long stays in the US. One of the officers recommended to get a b1 visa and given an I-94. The thing I'm worried about is if I go back to Canada, and when I apply for a TN status I maybe declined, because they think I want to live in the US. I can explain the situation again to the border officer, hopefully he understands that I'm only looking for temporary employment and do not want to stay permanently in the US. And I do have strong ties in Canada born and raised live there all my life. The TN I'm applying for is a Management Consultant, because I don't have a degree but plenty of experience.

you needn't have any worries about the border agents regarding them thinking you may want to live in the US permanently. A TN is a temporary visa, so in the application you must state that the position is for only 1 year. Everything will be fine.

Thanks Gunt! I feel more confident now and will be going to the border soon to get my TN. And yes my letter of employment states that it is less than a year contract work. Keeping my fingers crossed. :)
