Change of status H1B to F2: URGENT

Hello,
I am currently in the US working on H1B (since Jan 2010). I wish to quit my job by the end of this month and transfer into an F2 (my spouse is on an F1 visa). Here are my questions
- What form do I have to fill?
- How long will the processing take?
- Does the petition for F2 need to be approved before the end date of my job? or is it sufficient that my petition reaches USCIS before the end date?
- Do I need an attorney to file for the change of status?

Form I-539, Change of status to non-immigrant.

When you apply for COS, you need to still be in status on your H1b. otherwise,they'll have to turn it down. So, you need to wait until your status is changed.
