Change of name in passport & conditional GC

Hello everyone! My conditional GC will expire in Nov 2011. Subsequently, my passport, which is in my maiden name, is expiring in Nov 2011. My questions are: Do I need to renew my passport before I send my I-751? Do I need to change my last name to my married name on my passport or can I just keep my maiden name on my passport?

Thank you for your time! Have a good one!

You don't need to renew your passport if you're not going to travel abroad.

Do I need to change my last name to my married name on my passport or can I just keep my maiden name on my passport?
If you change it on one, you need to change it on both. Unless you plan to let the passport expire without using or renewing it after changing your name on the GC.

But you don't need to change both at the same time. Change them one after the other if that's more convenient. Just try to ensure that the next time you travel, you don't have the green card with your married name and passport with the maiden name or vice versa.

Thank you for your quick reply Jackolantern! I would want to renew my passport in case I have a family emergency and need to travel to my home country. I was thinking I will just keep my maiden name on my passport because there's to much hassle in changing it my my married name (i.e. report of marriage, explanation on why I filed soo late, etc). Also, I am planning to apply for citizenship in 2012-2013 and will have a US passport by then :) Oh and I don't need to change name on my GC. Sorry for the confusion. My GC is already in my married name.

So you expect that you won't leave the US for the next 2 years?

Why is passport renewal such a problem? Are you from a country that makes it mandatory for married women to change their name immediately?
