change J1 to h1b

im on a j1 programme til 11th of september and i have grace period til 10th of october..but,i would like to know if i can change my visa status so i can stay here longer and work..do i need to get a job offer first or i can individually find a job?if anyone can help me with this,i would appreciate it!!!

Aren't you subjected for 2 year home residency, while on J-1 visa? You need to petition from the employer for US Work Visa.
