I right now on H1.I am planning to enroll in grad school full time. If I apply for F1 visa in india and if it gets rejected, Can I come back on H1 and apply for a change of status provided i maintain status in my H1 visa. Will the fact that my F1 is rejected in my country have an impact on my COS application.

Since you are on a valid H1 status as of now going to India and returning should not pose any problems. When you are ready for applying to the Grad school then think in terms of COS etc. till then take it easy and dont worry too much about visa rejection stamps in passports. You are complicating the issue by thinking too far ahead.

I think i haven\'t worded my question properly. I already have an admission and planning to join this fall. I need to take a decision in the next few days. An answer in this context will be definitely useful.

Getting F1 Visa from India

Hi there,

I am planning to go to India to get a F1 Visa. I am already in US on F1 status and have just completed first year of my 2-year MBA program. If anyone has done this (going to India for F1 visa), could you please share your opinion on the degree of risk involved in going to India for visa. The worst scenario would be to have the visa application turned down and not being able to come back to complete the program. That would really suck.

Appreciate your advice.
Thanks a lot.

As a \'returning student\'....

you should qualify for drop-box application.

But from what I have been hearing (at least at the Mumbai consulate), the rejection rate for students (1st time) is very high these days.

So decide carefully...there\'s an equal chance of success and failure...
