Hi all,
Shusterman reported that chances are too less that CIR will pass this year as after 3 weeks of approval there is no conference committee meeting.

I dont see any hope this year now.

Good Luck.

Bleak indeed ...

Guys and Gals,

The stunning silence on this issue since it has gotten to the House all but ensures that this bill is being buried till atleast the November elections. The House is busy pushing "Pro War" bills and other such things while totally ignoring the CIR. I think we should forget about this bill for now. Even if it is considered later on this year and is approved, the changes will take another 6-9 months to take effect. For people like me (with PDs in 2001) this CIR really won't matter. Either way we have to waste another year in this process if not more.

regards,

saras

I agree

I agree that the chances of CIR passing this yr is very bleak.
It will probably be in 2007 if at all.

We need to pray that our provisions are incorporated in other bills.

Guys,

Sorry to ask this question but where and how do you guys conclude that CIR would not pass this year.

Optimism never works (atleast in this current scenerio) thats why everyone is expecting the worst. Anything good will boost a lot of confidence among people

Based on news ...

laborchic,

The conclusion is based on news articles and the general negative tone of the House. None of us know for sure if this will pass or not but the current indication is that it will probably not.

I do agree --- Republicans ' seemed to ' have got Latino votes ... with this big national debate .... Now the PUSH has gone --- wonder if it will ever comeback with the same force ... May be we wait for the presidential election year now.

The only problem I have is : renewing the EAD and AP every 9 Months. and those countless trip to ASC...
If they would do nothing about visa numbers .... they should work on some relief ... like EAD for 5 years .... how does that sound? Less work for them ... mental peace for us.

nTan,

This whole CIR thing was a big political ploy. No one would have even talked about it if it wasn't an election year. Bush took the lead on CIR because things were going horribly wrong for him and he felt that he could salvage something through his push for CIR. With last weeks killing of al-zarqawi there is again a slightly positive outlook towards the war and the administration has quickly turned away from CIR. When was the last time any of us heard anything about the CIR? It must have been a few weeks atleast. This bill has already been buried. Politicans got what they wanted at the time and they all knew from the beginning that nothing would happen so this whole thing was one big political show.

A for the USCIS, they can do several things to make the current situation a little better for us. Even 2 year EADs and APs would be a relief. The only problem is that they don't care about such things. We cannot expect any logical procedures to come out of this agency.

I thought that renewing EAD and AP every 9 months is just very incovenient. The real problem of ours is the EAD restriction, "same or similar job".

Extending life of EAD will not bring me any real benefit.

You sound confident. Is that optimism (nothing wrong with that) or do you have some inside information? We'll be glad if it's later. you don't have to elaborate though.

now that we will have hearings means we get nothing soon. but next tuesday an important primary will take place. if the anti-immigrant candidate wins, forget about CIR until after the elections. if the pro-immigrants wins, these hearings could just be that, hearings as they make a deal.

My perception is that a victory from Cannon doesn't seem to have a significant positive effect, since Bilbray and few other candidates already proved that immigration is a hot button this year.

My opinion is with TheInquisitor on this one. Bilbray -as an anti immigrant candidate- squaked through in a very lopsided Republican district. His margin was much narrower than historical average. That tells us about how much swing there is against conservative republicans.

Cannon vs. Jacob primary is much more of a bellweather as it's a republican primary and therefore it's an apple to apple comparison.

If Cannon wins, it'll give me hope. Not that I expect CIR to become law right away, but maybe we'll get a democrat pro-immigrants congress after elections and some good things might happen early next year.
