My journey that started with the application of SC followed by the application for OCI has culminated with a happy ending!!. The entire process took about 3-4 months to complete. At least in my case, I had no issues with the process of application and or receipt of the passports/OCI card via mail. It all went smoothly from day one and this forum has been a great help in clarifying the process/steps for the application of SC as well as OCI.
Now that I have this great "Gita/Bible/Koran" in my hands, my only wish is that I will be able to make atleast one trip back to India before God calls me to his home on a permanent basis! (BTW, you don't need to apply for any visa/passport to get there!). I mean, what's the use of going thru this "Agni Pariksha" and not being able to use it even once!

SC application+passports sent via mail on 06/09/10
SC - CGNY Receipt Dt : 06/10/10
SC/Cancelled Passports received back : 06/30/10(3.5 weeks from receipt date)
OCI TIMELINE 07/09-09/09
OCI Application sent via mail on 07/09/10
OCI Receipt Date at CGNY: 07/10/10
OCI STATUS:
OCI Acknowledged Date: 2nd Aug (3 weeks from receipt date)
Registration Status Granted On 18-AUG-2010
Photo/Signature Scanned On 09-AUG-2010
Documents Printing Status PRINTED
Documents Printed On 18-AUG-2010
Documents Dispatched to Concerned Mission/Office on 19th AUG 2010
Documents Received at NEW YORK CGI on 9th Sep' 2010
OCI COLLECTION 09/13 - 09/24
Sent US$20 cashiers check+Covering letter + US Passports on 09/13/10
Application reeived at CGI NY on 09/14/10
Passports+OCI Card(s)+ Sticker received back via USPS express mail on 09/24/10 i.e in about 8 working days.
