I'm posting this on my friends behalf. My friend took the oath at the Brooklyn New york.when he was asked to sign he signed the certificate with his full name as it appears on the certificate. Then after getting the cerificate in his hand he signed his normal signature next to his full name with the same black ink pen. now he is curious if the INS took a photo copy of the cerificate after he had signed with his full name, will it effect in any ways when he applies for the US passport. Please reply he is quite nervious. Thanks in advance.

your question is very confusing. he signed the Naturalization certificate in long cursive, right. Thats all. Where did he sign the normal way? On passport application form?

Yes he signed the Naturalization certificate in long cursive in front of the INS officer then after when the certification was handed over to him he came home and he signed his certificate with his normal signature as it appears on his drivers licence next his long cursive signature.

I think he shouldn't have done that. The long cursive signature is all that was needed. Saying this, I am not aware that this might cause any problem, but it could. Most likely the certificat is just going to be needed for passport and that might be the first and last time he'll need to show and use the certificate. If that works fine, good for him.

My 2 cents.

Thanks for the quick response. According to my friend he did see people writing their full name as well as signing on the certificate and he was confused. Onlything he is worried is if the INS kept a copy of the certificate that he had signed first. will the US passport processing center reject his passport application because he printed his full name and signed?
