causes for delay: Investigation

I heard that USCIS does investigations even after the FBI namecheck is cleared. Does anyone know if this investigation is done at the local DO or the Service Center and how long they can take to complete the investigation? Can we know if an investigation is pending by taking an infopass?

BTW, it is not only FBI namecheck, but rather a cross-agency background check including FBI, too :)

FBI does exclusive fingerprint check against warrants, criminals, fugitives etc., which is typically completed within 24hrs period.

Intiial check is done at SC (errors, missing files etc.)....majority of investigative work is done by DO.

My understanding is that USCIS does not perform any complex checks, but rather:

a) carefully review all your prior INS files for any inconsistencies
b) reviews and interprets "namecheck" findings and puts them in the context
c) double checks current "no go" database (actually while you are interviewing in most cases)

This does not take much time....exception is if USCIS requires an additional documents to explain certain things found in your file.

The key stumbling block is famous "namecheck" done outside of USCIS.

P.S.: I'm not a lawyer or an immigration expert. I'm just an ordinary guy. You are soley responsible for your actions.

Thanks very much. Replies on this board seem to be very valuable, even if they are not from lawyers.
