case status not available

I had my Fingerprints done on 2/14/08, philadelphia. I am unable to find my case status, my application number is not detected online or with the telephone enquiry. Is this a common occurence given the inefficent functioning of USCIS ?
 
do not worry a lot of people have the same issue. They have not updated their online system in a long time. Mine is also not found online. If you have any inquiries you will need to call USCIS 1800 number.

Call 1-800-375-5283

Options 1-2-6-0 (Wait for about 2 secs after you press each key).

Talk to the cust service person & request them to escalate your call to the IO. Usually they will do that since they won't be able to see your status online also. Give your A # or that 13 digit receipt number to the IO & he /she will be able to tell you update on your case. In short, there is no need to worry if you can't see your case online. You are not the only one who is going thru this, trust me.
 
Good chance it never will be online either. That's what I was told when I called up the INS about it. I got my citizenship without ever being in the online system...
 
yep, like others posting here, I wouldn't put much credo into online updates. it's one of their least efficient products. i recieved my IL recently, though the online status continues to display a "We received your N400 application..." since over a year ago.

If I were you, I'd perhaps be more interested in the Online Tracker someone from your city maintains. At the same time, wouldn't be a bad idea to call the USCIS number someone mentioned earlier to obtain an update.

yep same thing here. my status never came up online. called twice, first time they told me N400 receipt numbers don't appear online.second time i got to talk to an IO who said receipt numbers that contain an * don't appear online. but would still call them, try talking to an IO to get an update on your status
