I got a letter on Friday Sept, 24 from USCIS saying "case is pending due to service consideration".

What does Service consideration means.

was this letter a result of your initiating an inquiry on your case? I also got the same letter when my wife had called them to ask about her application status. Then , within two weeks, we both got approval emails. So, this could be good news. Hold tight.
 
Just now recd email from USCIS as under

On September 27, 2004, we transferred your I485 Application to Register
Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status to our office in NEWARK, NJ for them to schedule and conduct your interview. Scheduling can take several months. Our office in NEWARK, NJ will notify you when they schedule your interview or take other action on your case. If you need further information, please call the National Customer Service Center at (800) 375-5283.
