Case is in review before receipt and FP

I sent N-400 to VSC almost 3 months ago, but have not yet
received _anything_ from USCIS. When I called they said that
case was in review process.

Does anybody know what it can mean ?

Thanks.

You didn't get a "receipt" from them or an FP notice from them and you mailed it nearly 3 months ago? That's very weird. Did they cash your check?

When I filed my papers with VSC in July 2006 I did not get receipt notice or finger print notices for more than 2 months but my checks were cashed within 3-4 days after sending out N-400.

I was later told at the info. pass appointment that the reason why receipt notice was not mailed was because my case needed some verification and soon after that info. pass appointment everything went fast and I took the oath on 1/26/07.

It appears that they may be verifying something with your application and once that verification is over your case should move fast. Good luck.

Yes, Flydog, no receipt and no FP appt yet. They have
cashed my check though. And I already know my receipt number (ESC*...)
because it is printed on the check and because I asked when I phoned USCIS.

I spoke to several immigration officers by phone, and they all
confirmed that they have not sent receipt letter to me. Today an officer
said something like "your case was put in immediate review".
Nobody I've asked has any idea what it means.

I am going to wait for two more weeks and call them again.

BTW, the only complicated thing in my case is that I got divorced in the US.
I have no children, no speeding tickets for the last 5 years.
I traveled to Peru and Mexico, but it should not be a problem.
During my childhood I was affiliated with the Communist Party, but
this is true for almost every person studied in school in the USSR.

MasterUSA, thanks a lot for sharing that information.
I believe that there is a perception on this forum that
FP appointment is usually scheduled within a month
after ND. Apparently this is not true.

Thanx again and congratulations !

It is true for most applications(9 out 10 I would say) a small minority get stuck in the initial process.

Here is what I think will happen based on my experiece. When they do the review they will get the name check(the most painful of all the checks!) done on fast track basis. If that comes out clean you will breeze through your naturalization process.
