Career change for L1-A Visa holders

All,

Would like to know the possibilities for L1-A visa holders for career change.

1. What would it take for them to work for different employer?
2. If someone applies for H1 B, upon approval of H1B...does the L1 status
goes invalid or after starting to work for the H1B employer?
3. While being on L1-A visa in US, can one start working for a H1B employer
immediately after applying for H1B or after receipt of approval?
4. While being on L1-A visa in US, can one start working for a H1 B employer
(after applying for H1/after approval) without leaving the country?

1. You cannot work for a different employer, unless there exist a relationship between the new employer and the old company you worked for outside of the US (= the basis for your L1).
2. The H1b will have a start date mentioned as requested. BTW: When in the US you can only be in one status, so either L1 or H1b not both.
3. You can only start working after getting the actual approval. Working for a new employer based on receipt only works for H1b to H1b.
4. Yes. Just get your status changed (I think it's an option on the H1b application form)
