Card ordered. How long it takes to receive it?

I get an E-Mail yesterday that the Card had been ordered.

1) I see that generally it takes about a week to receive the Card. Is it true or is there some other hidden process between the ordering and Receiving?.

2) Will there be another E-Mail when the Card is physically posted?.

Reason im asking is that i need to travel to India this month and contemplating whether to take Transit visa or not.

PP Stamped - 02/07/05.
Card Ordered - 05/05/05

I received email and LUD changed on Tuesday 5/3/05 and received card on 5/5/05 Thursday...
