Card about to expire, haven't received new card yet.

I'm in the process of renewing my green card. I have already done the bio's. This was done at the end of July. They told me it would take between 2 and 3 months to receive my new card. Today is October 30th, and my card expires next week. Should I do anything with my current card if I haven't received my new card? or is it OK to let it expire? Should I call the office and see if I can get an extension stamp on the current card? I don't have any travel plans in the future at all.
Does anyone know how long its taking for the renewal process these days? Did the shutdown affect the time frame?

Thanks
Murph

Make an Infopass appointment to get the I-551 stamp in your passport.

If you work or plan to work in the near future, and your Social Security card has the employment restriction wording on it, visit a Social Security office to apply for a new SS card before your green card expires. Since you are a permanent resident, the new SS card will not have the restriction, and you can use the unrestricted SS card along with a driver's license or state ID for employment purposes, without having to show the GC.
