Car shop

Once again had fun talking to USCIS people over the phone yesterday...
Called them to find the status of my I485 (filed Jan 2004).

The officer read me the message from the web page which I already knew -
"On March xx, 2006, the document we made based on the approval or registration of this case was mailed directly to the person to whom issued".

We all know - this is just an address change or a fingerprint paper was sent. Moreover, my PD is July 2001, which became current only 3 weeks ago. So there is no way the case could get approved in March.
No, he insisted, this is approval.
On my statement that "I haven't received any evidence of my case been approved" he suggested to file an I-90 - the card replacement form. This is another 260 bucks!

See the point?

Resume - the customer service is exactly like a car shop - do not engage in a conversation with them until you know _exactly_ what you need.
Or you end up paying more money.

Yeah, well, as far as I understand, USCIS hired a company to answer phone calls, train them a little bit (how to press buttons on a computer) and there you are. They don't understand anything, they don't know anything, they don't care. It's much simpler way for USCIS.

Same here

Exactly same thing happened to me in April. He said I will recieve welcome letter. Although I smiled and acted happy while speaking on the phone, I knew he was wrong and that he had no idea what tnhat message means.

Wish those people would come to this forum and learn something. Wonder how they got hired and who is in charge of hiring!!

Will their paycheck be bigger if they learn something? I don't think so.
So why the heck they would learn?

Besides that, the entire voice menu over there must have been programmed by some really smart people - for one simple reason - never let you talk to a live person.
Everywhere else in the world if you press 0 you get connected to a human being. Not an option here. If you press 0 - it says 'this key is not programmed and we must disconnect you'. Click! another 15 minutes of your life thrown away. Very friendly.

If you happen to know you case # and if you select the appropriate menu there - like 'press 2 if you know the case #', then you end up getting an automatic voice message. That's it. You're done.
As a result, you literally have to give incorrect or untruthful answers to the voice menu to be able to talk to a person.

You know guys? I have an idea. They should add some legalese disclaimer in the beginning of the message - like 'giving untruthful answers to the voice menu may invalidate your status and abandon your case pending with us'. Something like that :)
Then the fun will start. In no time the backlog will be totally gone! Only those smart illegals who never call them will stay in the country. I guess this is what they wanted all the time.

All of this makes me wonder where my 15 thousand dollars of the tax money I pay each year go...
