Cancelling F-1 status and applying for B-1

I am currently enrolled at a University but the course is not what I expected and I want to abandon it. I arrived a month ago. Two questions:

1. I would like to return to Europe and apply for a B-1 visa, with a view to staying in the U.S. for 6 months and then going back to Europe. Will I have problems with this?

2. Is it advisable to keep my car, driver's license, bank account and house for when I return with my B-1 visa?

Thanks for your help.

You should probably inform the school about this so they would make changes to your status via SEVIS. I don't think there would be any problem in you getting a B-1 visa later because you abandoned your F-1 status.

As for keeping the car, driver's license, bank account, and house, I can understand you wanting to keep the some of them, but not all, unless you plan to return immediately. I think there is too much uncertainty in the whole situation that I would try to liquidate my assets, though I would keep the license as it wouldn't hurt. But that is a risk you might be willing to take that you might not get a B-1 visa immediately for some reason.
