folks...I am planning to apply for a Canadian visitor visa at Seattle and drive to Vancouver to get my H1-B stamped for the first time...If anyone has been in the same or similar situation...could you please tell me the approximate time frame for visa processing...can I get the Canadian visa the same day I apply and likewise for the H1 visa ? any special precautions that I need to take ?
I did read a pretty detailed experience on this forum by one of the members which required him to come the next day to collect his stamped H1...is the processing time same at all consulates ?

I don't know how does it work in Seattle but in LA it was quite easy. I've got it stamped at 1.30 pm the same day as applied. I brought my recent paychecks, bank statements, the proof of my legal status etc.
Tomorrow morning I'll have an appointment in Vancouver. I'll inform you about the results.
If you don't hear from me after Monday then the results are bad.

I had my H1B stamped in Vancouver - it takes the whole day. You have an interview in the morning and then go back at 3PM to pick up the passport. Even at 3 PM it is not a guarantee that visa would have been granted. Some folks are sent for further questioning and screening. so it may take longer than a day.

Also they want $100 cash right up front - make sure u have it handy and your picture is to the specifications

Hi! That was pretty easy. My appointment was at 8. It was a line there so it's better to come a little earlier if you want to have everything done fast. They do careful security check. However I was surprised to see some people using cellphones inside despite they warn not to bring any electronic devices.
After security check I payed 100 in the register and showed my application DS156 and DS157. The lady in the register gave me a number. Then I was waiting about 15 min before they called me. All they asked me to show was an approval notice, employment letter and the last paycheck. The whole interview took about 5 min or less. She didn't ask me any questions at all. Then she asked me to come at 3PM to pick up my visa.
So at 9.40 I was already drinking koffee at one of the koffeeshops in the nicest downtown in Northen Americal.
It was even easier then getting one-entry canadian visa.
But it's allways better to be prepared for the worst.

Good luck guys!
