Hello everyone...

I am a student working on OPT in detroit. My H1B was approved recently. I am planning to go to Toronto US consulate for visa validation. Before that I have to apply for a canadian visa. Should i give the reason as business i.e. going to US consulate in Toronto or tourism?? Does anyone have any experience in this regard? Also is my status a worker or a student in the US?
Please help

Thanks.........

stamping a visa is not business. for business you will need several documents to support you have business in canada or intend to start business in canada... it would be tourism and in the meanwhile you can get your visa stamped.

Book your online appointment with US consulate, then you will get a confirmation letter from them. Take that for getting visitor visa and other stuff related to your employment.

Good luck

There is nothing wrong in telling you are going to US consultate to get your visa revalidated.

This what I had written. They asked me to show the proof that I have an appointment. I showed them the appt letter and I got my visa in half hour in Candian consulate in detroit .

Question: Visa Realidation in Canada

Guys,

I am planning to get my visa revalidation in canada. Please answer my quesions below if you can. Thanks in advance.

1) What is the normal timeframe to get an appointment i.e howmany days it will take to get an appointment if you do it online?
2) Is there any preference between online and phone?
3) If the new visa is denied, do they cancel the existing visa?

Thanks again!

rravipati,

1) What is the normal timeframe to get an appointment i.e howmany days it will take to get an appointment if you do it online?

*******20-30 days in advance..
2) Is there any preference between online and phone?
*******online is better because you get to see and pick the available date and time

3) If the new visa is denied, do they cancel the existing visa?
*****YES

Also check the availability at different Consulates. I found that Ottawa had plentu of appoints open even a week or two away.
I have an appointment at Ottawa on Feb 9th. They also had Feb 3rd open. I just chose the 9th for work reasons.
Also got the appointment letter in mail within a week.

Keep in mind that if this happens, you will have to go to your home country.
