Canadian PR Questions

Hello all!!
My questions
1) I have not taken any English Proficiency tests and instead have provided my high school scores (10th, 11th, 12th) grades, my TOEFL score, my US undergrad college Transcripts, College Degree, and a document stating how I trained myself in English for the English Proficiency section of the Canadian PR application. Will the Officers be satisfied with the proof I have provided for the English Proficiency or will they go based on a different scale for the individuals who have not taken any tests? Or is it better for me to take a test in the mean while, since its only been 2 months since my application has reached the Canadian consulate?

2) I also recently got married. How do I add my wife to my filed application such that she does not have to start from the starch? And will adding my wife to my existing application increase my points as well? Or it does not affect the application in terms of points at all?

3) And in addition to my first question. For example, as of now based on the Qualifying assessment tool provided on the Canadian website, I got 73 points, which is above the 67 qualifying points. However, since I haven’t taken any English Proficiency tests and if the officers use a different scale to measure my proficiency (since I provided other documents as stated in question 1) due to which my points are lower then 67, which could lead to my application to be dropped. But if I were to add my wife then would adding her increase my points and suffice of the points I lost.

Your immediate help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

1) IELTS is not a big deal. Give it, score more than 7 in all the sections and you will not have to worry about how many points the immigration officer is going to give you for English proficiency. IELTS is the only sure shot way to score the max 16 points in English - why do you want to leave anything to the judgement of the immigration officer. BTW TOEFL does not count.

If you have the file number(AOR) you can add the IELTS score to your application.

2) I suggest you wait till you get the file number and then inform the RPC handling your case that you have married and would like to add your wife as a dependent. You can start off by getting police clearance for your wife. Search the web for the forms she has to fill in as your dependent although the RPC will inform you in detail how to add your wife.

Your wife can increase the total points by max 5 points depending on her education :
• Secondary school (high school) diploma or less: 0 points

• A one-year diploma, trade certificate, apprenticeship, or university degree and at least 12 years of full-time or full-time equivalent studies: 3 points

• A diploma, trade certificate, apprenticeship, or university degree of two years or more and at least 14 years of full-time or full-time equivalent studies: 4 points

• A Master’s or PhD and at least 17 years of full-time or full-time equivalent studies: 5 points

3) Like I suggested above take IELTS and you will be a happier man. Even if you have more than the required points to qualify for immigration if the immigration official is not satisfied he may call you for an interview. This can increase the processing time of your application by almost a year. I am not saying that this will happen but is it really worth the risk. And what if the points are incrreased sometime in future and you dont qualify because the immigration official didnt give you the max points in English. So just go and give IELTS.
