Please help me.
I am in the process of applying Canadian Permanent Residency
I have almost all the required documents up to date. But I am not sure what the FBI/Police clearnce and finger print means?

My question is

1. Please explain what i should get from my local police or DMV?
I read the application kit , but i am unable to understand the requirement very clearly

2. FBI/Police clearnce normally takes long time. Its government rite? so evidently this may delay my process. Meanwhile can i send all the other filled and required docs and send police/fbi clearnce and finger prints at a later date once i receive them?

Please help me
Thanks in advacne

Old info but might help

Hi there,

When I got my residency, I also had to go through the fingerprint thing with the FBI. How it worked back then is like this:

- go to the local police station and tell them you need to have fingerprints done (will cost you about $10.00, there\'s no free lunch)
- you then take the fingerprints and send them to the FBI. I had to send them to the FBI with instructions on where the results should be mailed, in my case the results had to be mailed directly to the Canadian immigration bureau in Buffalo, where my application was being processed. And if you think about it a little, it kind of makes sense, they don\'t want you getting the fingerprint results first because there is a chance you might make the results "look better".

That\'s about it. It\'s not as complicated as it seems.

Good luck,

No Title

You can go to local police station and get the finger prints. Sometimes, they may say, they are not doing any immigration finger printing. But specify them that it is NOT for American Immigration, but for Canadian. I had lot of struggle to get mine. First they said, they won\'t do it for immigration. Later they said they didn\'t have finger print cards, I have to get one to have the FP done. ANyhow, I made it finally.

I think you can send the application without the FBI cards....you can send them at a later time (After you get AOR). That\'s what I did. I am not 100% sure that I did right.....but I want to save some time (1, 2 months waiting for FBI reply).
Hope this helps.
