Canadian Police Clearance

Hello Dear all,
Please help me if any one knows about this.

My green card is in process. Currently my case is with National Visa Center. NVC has sent me packet#3. Now I have to send them the documents along with DS-230 form. I am a Naturalized Canadian Citizen and lived there for 3 years to get my Canadian citizenship.

I understand that I would need a Canadian police clearance just like the one from India.

My question is that do I need to provide the Canadian Police clearance at the time of submitting the packet3 to NVC.
Or I should just submit other documents and wait for NVC to ask for Canadian police clearance.

In Packet#3 they have asked for birth certificate, marriage certificate, h1 visa, passport copies and the online web site says that I should collect other documents also like police clearance etc.

I am asking this because I checked online and Canadian police clearance may take from 4-6 months.

Also I am asking this because I have seen many postings stating that people get Indian clearance after the interview call.

I asked this question to my lawyer. she said that we should submit the police certificate along with the packet3. But she was not very much sure about this. because she has not processed very many green cards which take consular processing instead of 485.

One more question:
I read on another forum that we don't need finger print back ground check and that takes about 4-6 months. we just need the name check. But on the same forum some one else was saying exactly the opposite. anyone knows about this please share the information.

Thank you so much in advance.

call up NVC and ask that question. Or you may call up your US consulate that has been assigned and ask these questions. To my knowledge there are two types of consulates. The first kind wouldn't need any documents that you are talking about when submitting the PKt3 . All they would need is DS 230 form+copy of passport. The second kind of consulate would require most of the documents that you are talking abuot. Lookup www.immihelp.com as well for more explaination.

rrajandr ! Thank you for the kind reply.
I did check immihelp and it in deed says that we don't need finger print background check which takes over 4 or 5 months and we need only name check background clearance which takes only few days.
That saved me tons of stress.
Thanks again.

she is right. If you don't send this they will ask for this again and again (as in my case)

we just need the name check.
True. And there are places (like one I went to in Scarborough) which can get you this in 7 days.

sudipta,
thank you for your kind reply. I am planning to go to toronto personally to get the PCC.

Okay - Here I am writing again so that somone else might get some help.

two things.

- we do not need finger print back ground check which takes forever according to immihelp web site.

- My lawyer's office confirmed with NVC that
it is not necessary to submit packet 3 with police clearance. but it is very important to have it ready / available for interview.

thanks
