Canadian Police Clearance (urgent) for DV 2007

I have my DV 2007 CP interview at a US Embassy in the Middle East next month. They just sent me instructions on how to obtain a Canadian Police Clearance (I lived in Canada for several years before moving to the US where I currently reside). Anyways, the instructions are for obtaining a Police clearance through the RCMP in Canada however I obtained one already through my local city's police dept where I resided in Canada. I was wondering if anyone who has been through the CP interview process and has had to obtain a Canadian police certificate knows if a certificate check obtained from the local city police dept is acceptable rather than one from the RCMP. The RCMP one takes a minimum of 120 days to process and I do not have that time now since my interview is early next month. Can anyone out there who has gotten a Canadian police certificate tell me if with a police certificate from a local city dept they were able to satisfy the requirements for the US Embassy for CP? Thanks.

hi i did that few months ago

y can get an egyptian finger print then translate it at elnador elnahase then send it to canada , it will take 3 months to get the result.

y can do one new thing if y are in canada, y can go for the new tecnology scanning system throgh 7 centers all over canada , it will be more expensive like 80 dollar but y will get the result within 3 weeks but y must be in persaon in that center to get yr finger print done
good luck

ther are 2 kind

i did not tell y that there are 2 kind of criminal check
1- based on name only (not accepted in the amirican interview)
2- based on taking yr finger print and they search on thier records , that on takes 3 months to get the result ( that what they want in the interwiew)

where are y now exactly as if y are in the blessed USA so y may go for that electronic finger print scan in some centers in the state,
in my opinion phone those people in canada and ask them if it is avilable to make the electronic finger print from the usa or y may have to come to canada for that electronic finger print

any question i like to help

Thanks for your input. Did you go through with this process through the RCMP Canadian Police certificate? I know there are two kinds of checks, I am trying to find out from people who have done their CP interviews to see if a police certificate obtained from a local Canadian city police dept is sufficient (they do it based on name and birthdate). I do not have time to obtain a RCMP one since it takes several months (and it is based on fingerprints).

The electronic prints doesnt help - the issue is not electronic, the issue is whether they accept a city police dept police check vis-a-vis a RCMP one. If anyone who has gone through with this themselves can respond, I would appreciate it.

What centers are you talking about in Canada? It has to be through RCMP (the Royal Canadian Mountain Police). Check this website: http://www.rcmp.ca/crimrec/finger2_e.htm#Obtain

DId you get one done from Canada?

it was RCMP

i went to Calgary,Alberta ,Canada to a RCMP center specivied for fingerprints only "electronic" they scan both yr hands with the computer and they send that information to the centeral office in Outtawa , then y get the result after 3 weeks "including mailing time" ,

if y do finger print with regular way "paper and ink " and then y send it to RCMP center in Outtawa it will take 3 months and more , y can do regular finger print from canada or USA or from any place all over the world

by the way the amirican officer in the interview he asked me to get a criminal record based on my finger print , he refused that criminal record based on name and dat of birth , I was told that i have chance tell september as i remember, so in yr case dont wast yr tim and go today for an electronic criminal record,
by the way this site y sent is not containning any information about the electronic criminal record but if y are in canada ask any police office about that electronic fingerprint as it is very new method like few month
good luck

some dates to let y under stand what i means

on january x ,2007 was my interview , the amirican officer refused my criminal record because it was based on name and date of birth then i went t a police office in cairo egypt and i got my finger print don on a pice of paper and the egyptian officer but his signature and the official seal then i translated it into english and i sent it to the RCMP in outtawa these one i received its result on april, 23, 2007 so it took more than 100 days.

i came back to canada on 20 of january 2007 and i was told that there is an electronic finger print and it takes 2 weeks to get the reply , so i went to calgary as it is the only center in alberta , after 3 weeks i got the result and i sent it to the amirican embassy and after few days i got the immigration visa , very easy

again i am telling y if y go with only that criminal record based on name and date of birth they will give y another chance to get it based on yr finger print but the problem that all immigration visa will be finished on september 2007 as i think so do it fast

These are the instructions below for obtaining an RCMP police clearance. What if I just went to an RCMP office in Canada and got a police certificate done based on name and birthdate - they said they can issue that typically on the same day - would that work? After all they just want a certificate from RCMP right and it says below only in certain cases do they want a police certificate based on fingerprints - what do you think?

Inside Canada: Applicants who are physically present in Canada should contact their local police service or Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) office regarding criminal record check procedures. Applicants may obtain a certificate of no conviction issued by any Canadian police service so long as it notes that Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or the national criminal records repository was searched using the applicant’s name and date of birth. Applicants should ensure that the search includes all names that they have previously used, including maiden names, prior married names, or names used before Canadian naturalization. (Note: Because records checks based on name and date of birth only are sometimes less thorough than those based on fingerprints, U.S. diplomatic offices reserve the right to request that certain applicants obtain fingerprint-based searches from the RCMP.)

Applicants who have been convicted of a crime in Canada must contact their local RCMP office to obtain a “Certified Criminal Record Check,” which lists an applicant’s criminal history, indicating the section of the Canadian Criminal Code under which the applicant was charged, the disposition of the case, and the penalty imposed, if any. Obtaining a Certified Criminal Records Check requires submission of a fingerprint chart; the RCMP could take between two and twelve months to process a request for a Certified Criminal Record Check. (Note: If a namecheck by a police agency reveals a conviction record, that agency may be unwilling to issue a certificate and may refer the applicant to the RCMP for a Certified Criminal Record Check.)

Canadian pardons have no effect under U.S. law. Applicants who have been convicted of a crime in Canada that was subsequently pardoned must contact an RCMP office to obtain both a Certified Criminal Record Check and copies of their pardoned criminal record. Additional information is available online at: http://www.rcmp.ca/crimrec/finger2_e.htm#Obtain.

Outside Canada: Applicants who are not physically present in Canada must obtain a Certified Criminal Record Check by sending a duplicate set of fingerprints (taken by a local police force) to the RCMP. Fingerprint submissions must include the following:

· rolled and flat impressions of all ten fingers taken with black ink (may use a standard FD-258 FBI fingerprint card)

· full name, date of birth, and sex of the applicant

· the name and address of the police agency taking the fingerprints

· the signature of the official taking the fingerprints

· the reason for the fingerprint submission (U.S. visa)

· the processing fee of CAD 25.00 or USD 18.00, payable to the "Receiver General for Canada" by certified check or money order.

Fingerprint submissions should be sent to: RCMP, Civil Fingerprint Screening Services, P.O. Box 8885, Ottawa, ON, K1G 3M8. Additional information is available online at: http://www.rcmp.ca/crimrec/finger2_e.htm#Obtain.

Special note for applicants who reside or resided in Newfoundland and Labrador: The RCMP did not operate in Newfoundland before April 1, 1949. Therefore, applicants who were age sixteen or over in 1949 and who resided anywhere in Newfoundland and Labrador for six months or longer after reaching the age of sixteen must obtain a Good Conduct Certificate issued by the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC). Applicants should inquire at RNC offices in St. John’s, Corner Brook, Churchill Falls, or Labrador City, or may contact the RNC at: Headquarters, Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, 1 Fort Townshend, St. John’s, NL, A1C 2G2, tel: 709-729-8000.

i am sure that happen with me

look i am 100% sure they will ask y in that amirican immigration visa interviw for a criminal record from the RCMP based on yr finger print "not on the nam and date of birth"
please dont wast yr time as yr interview is soon and yr last chance is on september as i think

as i told y when y go to middle east or where ever out side of canada y have to show a criminal record based on finger print ,

that all happen with me exactly as what happining with y ,

by the way where exactly is yr interview
i sent y befor that site for the criminal record ,phone them and take an appointment, that is the only way to save yr interview

in the interview y will be outside canada

by the way i show the amirican officer in the interview that papers containing this title"inside canada" but he was write that he want the criminal record based on fingerprints as i am already out side canada now"in the interview which was in egypt"

OK I do think you are right - I was trying to avoid travelling to Canada right now since I was supposed to be going at the end of the month. Anyways, I called IFS and they dont pick up the phone so I left them a message. I am planning to go to their Ottawa office. It turns out there is also another fingerprinting service there too called Commissionaires. Anyways I talked to a lawyer in Ottawa and he said just go to IFS and it would be easier. I am probably going to go there in the next couple of days to sort this out. By the way, can I pay by cash when I am there? Do I also pay IFS for my RCMP fee of CDN $25 or US $18? Can I get the certified cheque or money order done from a bank nearby?

Also do I need to fill in some kind of application form to get the RCMP check through IFS? Do I need to type up a letter explaining to them why I need this?

more details

1- make sure to take an appointment such in case , y dont know what is thier schadual
2-I paid by my depit but they accept also cash
3- the fee was 80 can dollar
4-they will need photo IDs (better to be Canadian IDs) (take all Candaian IDs y have) they will take a copy of this IDs
5-y dont need to fill any application as the officer will fill this application and he will ask y to sign it
6-they will ask y the purpose of this finger print and y will write the same as the amirican officer want ( it is for amirican VISA)
Good luck

I went to IFS in Ottawa and got my digital fingerprints submitted to IFS. There was a problem with the first submission so I had to do it again. I also managed to get into the RCMP headquarters and spoke to the person who receives the digital fingerprints for processing. She informed me that officially they quote the 4 month period but it may be less. Now, I went a 2nd time and she told me that my file had been processed and now the RCMP was conducting a search to see if I have a record.

I also got an RCMP police certificate made based on name and birthdate just in case. When you showed that officer in Egypt the certificate you had based on name and birthdate was it a RCMP one or some other local one?

How long do you think it will take to get the police certificate back from RCMP since I did it electronically through IFS?

I signed a waiver so that the results from RCMP are sent to IFS first and then they can send it to me by courier since I am travelling a lot in the coming weeks before my interview.

I found the following info online and the website is at the bottom of the post. I think perhaps the officer asked you for fingerprint based RCMP because it was specific to your case only - in general I think the US Embassy will accept RCMP certificates based on name and birthdate. I think they determine whether a fingerprint based on is needed only on a case-to-case basis - dont you think?

Canada
Information about police certificate from Canada can be found

here[18].

They are also called RCMP certificate as police certificates from

Canada are obtained from RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police).

Police certificates are required for consular processing for

those currently living in Canada for 6 months or longer or for

those not currently living in Canada, but who did live in Canada

for more than 1 year.

If you look up the blue pages (government offices) of your phone

book, you will see RCMP phone # under "Canada" section. In

Toronto the number is 416-363-9072

There are two types of police certificates, one is name check

based and other is fingerprint based. Only name check based

police certificates are required for US immigration. Fingerprint

based police certificates are for Canadian immigration.

Other than a valid reason they do not generally do it, just like

that. So you have to tell them you need to do it for "US

Immigration".

The police station issuing the clearance will red stamp an

approval and on the bottom of the form you will see a note;

"details cannot be confirmed as relating to the subject of

inquiry without fingerprint comparison". Do not be alarmed by

this because fingerprints are NOT required. If, during your

consulate interview the consular officer finds your police

clearance has a "hit" or name check problem you may be instructed

to be fingerprinted. In this case the US consular post will

furnish Form FD-258 to be used for fingerprinting. This is the

only form they will authorize for fingerprinting. Not any RCMP

fingerprint form. Anyone who has initiated on their own to secure

RCMP fingerprints is wasting their time. The consular officer has

to witness the issuance of finger printing for authenticity. The

RCMP fingerprint form is used for Canadian immigration or

criminal processing.

I am very sure 100%

that happened with me and with 2 of my friend , one of them was living in greek and the other one was in italy,
the officer asked for a criminal record based on finger print not on name,

by the way that happen for me and my wife , the officer refused that name based criminal record, even i shaw him in the interview an email i got it from the amirican embassy in egypt showing that i need criminal record based on name, that happened with me, may that happened due to being in egypt but any way i got the visa and i see that y will get yr criminal result after 3 weeks of that date y hade yr fingers scaned
by the way where will be yr interview in the middeleast

My interview is in the Gulf.
Did you get a I-134 Affidavit of Support? If so, I have a question - I got one from a doctor here in the US. If he is self-employed then he only needs to attach his tax returns and no bank statement is needed as per the instructions right? If you dont know anything about this form, then dont worry about it.

Thanks.
