Canadian marrying US citizen

I am new to this thing but here goes: I am a Canadian (born and raised) marrying an American (born and raised). We are getting married in Canada and will be living in the US. I've crossed the border a million times for years whether it's visiting him, family or friends. Would you suggest I tell the immigration officer that I'm going to be a visitor in the states until I apply for my spousal visa or that I'm simply visiting friends (my usual thing)? When they ask how long, how long should I say since this time, I'm not going for just a leisurely weekend? I know what papers to file as I've spoken with an official on the matter so that part I'm fine. It's funny that I've had three close friends go through this last year and yet, all three did something different (fiance visa, got married here and moved there or got married there, had ceremony here and moved there)....what are your suggestions? Sorry this is so long.
