Canadian Going For Fellowship

Hello,

I am a Canadian Citizen, going for a fellowship in the US starting July 1, 2005.

I need the following items in this order i believe:
H1B
SSN
State Medical License
Hospital Privledges

It seems that the SSN is the big delay to moving forward with the Medical Licencse especially. I am worried that I will not get everything in time and my fellowship start time will have to be delayed...not good.

How can I get the SSN quicker?

Thanks
Dustin

I don't think state license is limited by SSN. Best to find out is call the State licensing Board where u will do ur fellowship. go to http://www.fsmb.org and click on *State Medical Board Info* in the left column. then *Board Directory* and call ur state board from the telephone numbers.

To apply for SSN, u need some kind of work permit (either J1/H1/F1 etc). Then you go and apply to the SS office closest to you. check the SSA website here: http://www.ssa.gov/ssnumber.

Important: previously, under TN Visa, doctors (canadian citizens) were not permitted to work in the US. Recently, there has been a change in the law and now, i believe, doctors can work under the TN visa in US hospitals. I have tried to locate a link for this law, but i could not find it. you can do search for this.
