I have EAD, I140 and it has been more than 180 since my I485 has been filed. My Canadian GC is now being processed. I want to know the implications of obtaining Canadian GC. For example if I reenter US and show my Canadian GC and Indian Passport and AP docs what might happen!!
Plz share your comments/experiences/hearsays. Many thanks.

Humm, i am not sure it is a good idea to show your Canadian Permanent Resident paper to the immigration officer at the port of entry. Actually it might hurt your GC case here in US - you are showing intention of making Canada as your permanent residence place while you are waitting for the US GC. I can understand what you want, but might not the US immigration officers. And, as long as you have the AP, you don't need to show any Canadian paper anyway.

You can never be too careful.

Once you get your Canadian PR, don't you have to stay a minimum of 180 days/year in Canada? I would be interested in the same if I can figure out how to have Canadian and US permanent residencies simultaneously.

Having PR of a different country probably will reflect badly on your AOS for the US. As other people have mentioned, it leaves the door open for the leading question, how can you be the "Permanant Resident" of more than one country?

You would probably be better of just entering on the AP without mentioning the Canadian PR at all.

Good luck!

Canada changed minimum residence rules for new immigrants last year. Now a landed immigrant has to stay in Canada for 3 years in a 5 year period and permits overseas stays exceeding 180 days!

Extremely flexible rules.....

When entering the US, use US immigration papers, not Canadian immigration papers. If you have permanent residence of more than one country, eventually you will have to give up one. Unless you keep your leap sealed, especially to the immigration officers. If you live in the US, and want to maintain Canadian PR then be sure to file Canadian tax return every year. When you go to Canada or come from Canada as US PR in the US, your passport is not stamped, so, there is no way of knowing where you are staying.

far relaxed rules with the "maple leaf" card regarding employment as well . no restrictions on "same/similar" crap etc.

residence requirement is 3/5 years, no 180 day per year minimum

Hey Aptu,
Hong long did it take you to get GC in Canada?
That seems to be a safe choice to apply for both US/Canada in case the US one doesn't complete.
t3k

Current canada timeline (friends doing this right now):
6-8 weeks for Initial Work Authorization
16 months for Landed Immigrant under "Skilled Worker" category.
6-7 months if you manage to get a Provincial sponsorship waiver on the HRDC approval etc -- get a good lawyer --
