Canadian consultant doing contract work in US

I am Canadian and an independant consultant ( sole prioprietorship),If I do have contract work in US (short term). Do you think that I need TN Visa or other work permis? anyone is in the same situation? Thanks for your sharing.
 
Yes.

I believe you need the TN visa....

My co-worker who works in Canada (already had 6 years in his H1B, staying less than 1 year in Canada, holding Indian passport) is able to get a \'special\' visa ( I said special because I didn\'t know what type of visa) and work in the HQ office in US for 3 months.
