Canadian Citizen, currently in USA visiting

I am a Canadian Citizen. I've been here in the U.S.A. since June1st, 2005, and as from what I've heard, I'm only allowed to stay here, as a visitor, for up to 6 months...therefore, I'm supposed to go back to Canada Nov.30th, 2005. This is a 2-part question. 1) Is there any way I can extend my stay, or how will the INS (or Customs at the Airport) know how long I've been here in the U.S.A., since I cancelled my return flight while here in the States? 2) I heard that one way, is while I'm here in the U.S.A. visiting, as a Canadian Citizen, I'm allowed to apply for a Green Card...but I can't leave the States until the Green Card is approved. I understand that I'm only here as a "Visitor" so employment is obviously not permitted. I'm here basically, visiting my boyfriend, to see where this relationship leads up to...and so far, even though things could possibly not work out between us, I still want to stay & become a permanent full-fledge resident of the U.S.A.

Thank you
