Canada-US con-fusion

Hi all,
As per the forum discussion-board, it SEEMS that we must move to Canada if we have to maintain our residency there, now that we are left with just about 2 years remaining in our 5-year period. [(Q. no. -1) Or, is this assumption incorrect? Which is to say that there ARE options. {As a background we might tell that we landed in Canada in September 2002 briefly (less than a week) and have been away ever since in order to fulfill our prior commitments in the US.}]
But we are thinking of applying for the US green card as well before leaving. The question is:
(1) What are the restrictions on green card applicants?
(1a) i.e., does the green card application restrict our travels to US, even if we still hold a valid visa for US?
(2) Or, would the green card application prevent us from availing of a job offer in US and a concomitant visa?

Thanks for your response, comment, suggestion, advice, caution, reprimand, or whatever.

Here is what you must do to comply with your residency obligations.

You must accumulate two years of physical presence in Canada in every five-year period.

For more details - http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/newcomer/res-oblig.html

Furthermore when you re-enter Canada now you will have to explain to the immigration official why you did not return to Canada for 3 years after becoming PR.

I hope you understand the fact that if you want to maintain your Canadian PR you HAVE to stay in Canada now for more than 2 years. So if the US green card application does not require you to stay in US then you can apply fo it.
