Hello everyone!! I'm new to this forum.

Right now my husband and myself working in US on H1B visa and our GC is in I-485 stage and also received EAD's last month. Last month I got approval for Canadian Immigration for my husband and myself and our passports were also stamped with Canadian Immigration with expiration date May'12, 2003.

We are planning to go to Canada before expiration date and want to come back immediately. I have some questions regarding entering Canada and coming back to USA. I request the fellow members help me with you suggestions.

1) What all the documents I have to carry to Canada?

2) What formalities I have to complete in Canada before coming back to US?

3) Can I drive from US to Canada on my own car?

4) While coming back at port of entry, do they stamp our passports?

5) What I have to do in order to maintain my status with Canadian PR, while I'm in USA?

6) Is there any website where I can find the useful information?

Thanks in Advance.

Forgot to mention in my previous posting that we just got Passports with Canadian stamping until May'2003. Is the passport is sufficient to enter into Canada from US as PR?? Where do we get the Right of Landing papers and all??

Please help me with info.

1) What all the documents I have to carry to Canada?
Landing papers & Passport must stamped with Canadian VISA
Also make in Excel ,list of items u intend to carry to canada while moving permentaly.
only those specified in the list you can carry to canada. So include jewellery, electronic items etc..
It is not mandatory to carry all the items. For these in the list u need to pay anything to customs while moving permentaly

Also carry some funds in form cashier cheque(say 2000-2500). Unless they ask u dont remove the cheque.

2) What formalities I have to complete in Canada before coming back to US?

Apply for PR and SIN cards. At the time of landing ask the officer abt PR card application. They will help you.
Go to nearst Social Insurance office , apply for SIN card. these card will mail to Canadian address only

3) Can I drive from US to Canada on my own car?

Yes u can

4) While coming back at port of entry, do they stamp our passports?

All I-797 approvals,EAD card(s), i-485 receipts(copies aswell as orginals) , advance parole, few paystubs
and letter from ur employer stating ur going to canada for vacation .

Show them ur I-797 approvals at US POE, if u dont have valid visaon ur passport.
Unless they ask u dont remove other documents.Dont spend much time with INS officer at US POE

5) What I have to do in order to maintain my status with Canadian PR, while I'm in USA?

As per new law , IN 5 years period ,u can stay 3 yrs out side of canada

6) Is there any website where I can find the useful information?

www.cic.gc.ca.

Good luck

You might be forced to import your car into Canada. I would suggest renting a car insted.

Thanks for taking time to answer my questions.

I'm going to Canada before expiration date on Canada PR visa stamping and will come back in 2/3days.

1) Since this is not a permanent move, Do I still need to specify the items I'm going to take with me?

2) Do they ask me while entering Canada, is that a permanent move or temporary??

3) If they suspect that it is a temporary move, do they cause any problems to enter??

4) While entering US do they stop each and everyone and ask for the documents and stamp on the passport??? or is that random?

Thanks in advance.

) Since this is not a permanent move, Do I still need to specify the items I'm going to take with me?

Yes , At the time permanent move u cannot carry those items. As per customs officer, what ever you own at the time of landing or specified , U can carry them without paying customs.Ask the officer enclose them the items if u intent to buy in feature.

2) Do they ask me while entering Canada, is that a permanent move or temporary??

For PR and SIN card , u need Canadian address to mail the cards. if u have any friends in Canada, pls don't specify them abt ur move unless they ask u.Usually INS officer wont ask you, may be at the SIN this question may arise ....

3) If they suspect that it is a temporary move, do they cause any problems to enter??

NO problem

4) While entering US do they stop each and everyone and ask for the documents and stamp on the passport??? or is that random?

AS per now , if u have valid I-94 and ur stay is less than 30 days then with latest approvals and valid I-94 u can enter in to US

My I-94 is expired. But I have my passport stamped with new H1B until 2004. I have Parole Visa and EAD.

So expired I-94 will not be a problem to enter US from canada?????

You means White I-94 card ??

since u have valid visa stamped till 2004 means u have valid I-94 till 2004. So , staple the I-94 card from the latest i-797 aproval.
You all set.
