My husband will be going to the U.S. in a couple of months to start his research work with his supervisor for a year and thus, will get paid. He will be on a J1 visa. The work will go towards his PhD which he will start in Sept 06. Does he have to change to a F1 visa when he is a student at the university or can he keep the J1 visa all the way through his studies?
