Can you delay your own GC?

Hello All,

I have a question. I have not seen something like this posted anywhere on this forum lately.

I recently filed for I-140 and I-485. I was then browsing this forum and was happy (and frightened) to see applications being approved in under 6 months in some cases.

I plan to get married and thought have enough time to do so. What if my applications gets approved faster then anticipated? Can you delay it somehow yourself? Like dont go for finger printing and stuff?

Of course my concern is that if I get my GC and then get married, my future spouse wont get her's along with me.

Thanks,

Sun07

I know... I did expect some raised eyebrows with my Q...

lol

Strange things have been happening lately, one of them being....

My Labor was approved in less then 3 months. (Filed in Memphis, TN)

Hey considering your lucky streak. May be you should get married quickly before the luck arm of TSC strikes you again.:D

Like dont go for finger printing and stuff?
Failing to appear for FP will get your 485 application cancelled, not delayed. If you have a need to reschedule an FP appointment that can de done, but just ignoring the appointment will result in cancellation.

Sun07,

This is what you need to do: Get married ASAP.

If your marriage date is before your I485 approval date,
you can still file for her I485 and get hers approved very soon.

If your marriage date is after your I485 approval date,
she can not benefit from your filing.

Don't take your chance.

Good luck,

Lea

Or dont get married for life... :D

You can postpone your finger prints for upto 90 day if that helps... But there might be some hardship if fingerprints are not given on time. The hardships might be calling for an interview just because there was a delay in fingerprinting or an RFE or something else ...

lol... so very true!!

As if getting married was not enough pressure already!!!

Thanks guys.. seems like there is nothing one can do... You can apply for a GC when you like but if TSC says... here.. take it!! you can't say ... oh not right now!!!

There must be some guy ...

There must be some guy, who filed I-485 later than you, want to switch his/her ND with you.:D

2nd FP: 5/27/2003

Get married in court

If you know whom you are going to marry, consider court marriage and apply for your spouse right away. Later on you can go for traditional marriage.

My friend, my Labor certification came was approved in a month. And I am stuck with 485 for more than 26 months.

So you have ways to go :) Go get married. Do what you have to do and you will still have plenty of time left.

Heard that for the first time. I'm still laughing........

You can delay your FP by 2-3 months. That's all.

by applying for I485 @ TSC ... you have made a LOT of time to spend before approval .......so .. take your time .. get married ... go sailing ...

good luck.

You will see your child first!

Looking at TSC pattern (if any) you will have enough time for marriage, honey moon and the christening of one or two children before TSC processes your I-485; but if you want to have pace of mind about this issue, then you should get married ASAP. It can be a “paper” wedding only.:D
