Can you apply for EAD and OPT at the same time?

Hi,

My husband and I have just applied for EAD (and Adjustment of Status and Advanced Parole). I am still in school but I am graduating this quarter. Can I also apply for OPT (optional practical training) through my school?

I dont think immigrant work permit petition (EAD) and non-immigrant work petition (OPT) can be filed concurrently. Why would you need OPT if you can have EAD? as OPT will expire in 1 year anyway.
