Can we use ITIN instead of SSN while filing I-485

My lawyer sent me a rough copy of the filled I-485. In that she mentioned
Indivisual Tax Indentification Number(ITIN) instead on Social security number (SSN) for my wife. [My wife is on H4 visa and she is having only ITIN ]When i asked the lawyer about, they are saying it is fine.
Did any one filed like this. Is it ok?

That is ok. You can write the ITIN number. If she jointly filed the tax returns with you for the year 2000, please write ITIN. If you got married only in this year you can write "NONE" there or ITIN it really doesn\'t matter.
