Can we take an appointment before approval?

I am going back to my old employer and they are doing Premium Processing for my H-1B, since they had revoked my earlier approval. Since the appointments available at a Consulate in India are at least 50 days away, can I take an appointment once I receive the Receipt Notice, or do I need to wait for the Approval Notice? I have to travel to India urgently in about 5 weeks, hence I want to book an appointment soon.
