Can we just write MM/YYYY instead of MM/DD/YYYY for dates in N400?

For the addresses where you have lived in the Past 5 Years and for dates of employment:

Can we just write MM/YYYY instead of MM/DD/YYYY for dates in N400?

Especially for the addresses where you have lived, if we dont remember the exact date of move-in, can we write (for example): 05/2005-06/2006
(just the months) or is this not advisable and we should make our "best guess" of the day and write a full date?

Also, a question on PO Box for Mailing address

The N-400 says:
Home address - Give the address where you nowlive. Do not put post office (P.O.) box numbers here.

B.Mailing address - If your mailing address is thesame as your home address, write ''same.'' If yourmailing address is different from your homeaddress, write it in this part.


Question: I am planning to give my apartment address for the Home addr and P.O.Box for the "Mailing address". P.O. Box for Mailing address should be acceptable, correct? Please confirm this to me based on what you have heard in this forum, folks.
 
Best guess for the full date because those are the days they are counting: 365 in a year. So I would just guess. That is what I did.
 
Interesting questions:

I guess you're not filling the form in the computer, otherwise it forces you to put the full MM/DD/YYYY. If you fill it by hand I guess you can write MM/YYYY. I don't remember having read about this before, however, in my humble opinion I would think it should be alright if you don't remember a particular date. I would probably try to find as many full dates as possible and do MM/YYYY for the ones I couldn't fine. You can probably explain the situation during the interview if it becomes an issue.
If you were filling out the form in the computer I would use the best guess, and perhaps explain during interview if it becomes an issue. Most people move into a new place at the beginning of the month for example.

For your other question. I did a quick search and I think other people have used or advocated P.O. Box as mailing address. Use this at your own risk ;)

Huracan: Yes, I've seen people suggest the PO Box as the Mailing address option (infact some have 'recommended' it). Why do you say "use it at your own peril"? Have you heard any issues?
 
The only personal experience I had with a PO Box address was when I filed the I-485 (Adjustment of Status). We then filed four I-865 "Sponsor's Notice of Change of Address" before I got an interview (right, we moved 4 times!), each time entering both a physiacl address and a PO Box mailing address.

I believe I received all correspondence such as receipt from the INS at the physical address, not the PO Box address.

Needless to say that I did not mention any PO Box mailing address for the N-400, since it did not seem to have had any effect.

P.S.: It took 26 months for me to get to the I-485 interview after I changed address 4 times.

No, don't worry. I meant it in a I don't really know what I'm talking about sense, because I used my address as my mailing address so I don't have much experience :)

Sorry if I misunderstood you - but can you clarify?

Are you saying that for each AR-11 you filed both a phys. addr and PO Box addr? I thought AR-11 is *only* for phys.addr change, and you dont need to write the PO Box other than just once on your I-485.
 
I can clarify.

I looked up the AR-11 and it does not include any distinction between mailing address and physical address.

I was actually referring to the I-865 (Sponsor's Notice of Change of Address) because my wife is my GC sponsor. No matter if a PO Box address was listed, the confirmatin came to the physical address, not the PO Box address.

For the MM/YYYY thing, that's what we did, just the month and year. We filled ours out on the computer and managed to bypass the day requirement, I don't remember how we did that, probably just ignored the computers prompting.

Did you not put in DD info becos you did not know exact dates?

Did you receive any questions from USCIS because you "approximated" it to MM/YYYY and left out the DD?

That's correct, we didn't know/remember the exact dates. Also, I think in the "Guide" it only says to put in MM/YYYY.

I wasn't questioned on it at any stage.
